Plaster cast of a Roman copy in marble from the Protonant era from a Hellenistic original probably from Skopas from the mid-4th century BC .; the dog and the head are additions of the Roman copyist. The marble group is preserved in the Vatican Museums. The original remains the property of the Pighini family until 1770 when it was purchased by Clement XIV. Numerous casts are known in the main academies. The Bolognese cast, donated by Benedict XIV, is attributable to the mid-eighteenth century.
