Memories of Passerby by Mario Klingemann (Laatzen, Germany, 1970) is a work that uses artificial intelligence to create portraits of non-existent people in real time and without interruption. Using portraits painted by great European masters as a starting point, the piece generates new faces that change and fade. The code is Klingemann’s brush, creating works that feed back and are in continuous transformation. The German artist uses algorithms and artificial intelligence to explore visual imagination, language, and our increasingly complex relationship with technology.
