Sometimes artists have something interesting to say about their works. They talk about them with feeling, power, great idea. Alexander Menukhov is one of them. He is an artist from far but beautiful Arkhangelsk, who came this summer to Stenograffia in Khanty-Mansiysk with warm feelings for street art.
Have a look at his work "Memory" and read the author's description:
The key message of the work is Man's memory about their ancient connection with nature, which we often forget and even deny sitting in concrete jungle. However much we like concrete and brick walls of our houses, the nature is our first Home. Many centuries ago Man lived in harmony with the world, with nature and its laws: the working day began at sunrise and ended at sunset. All that changed with the discovery and use of electricity. Now humanity treat the nature in an exploitative manner – we build big cities fencing ourselves off from the "wild" nature.
A fence in the picture is a symbol of estrangement, consumer attitude. If we send a modern person, accustomed to various gadgets and other benefits of civilization, to live in the wild for a while, it’s highly unlikely that he will spend this time without stress and longing for convenience and a stone house.
The very place where the picture is made – a substation unit – is also symbolic as well as the doors where there is a sign "Danger! Keep out."
