This work belongs to CHO DUCK-HYUN‘s Memory of the 20th Century series. This hyper-realistic depiction of Japanese army troops pulling out from Korea is reminiscent of old documentary photo or movie. The visages of people depicted with mono-colored conte suggest their fear and anxiety toward their unpredictable future. This work presents Cho's unique style of combining black box and photo-like images. The light-sensitive device, which enables the light go and off automatically, makes the drawing in the box even more conspicuous. What Cho is trying to convey in this work would be human dignity even before the harsh history.
