Men's Coat - Justeaucorps

This simple collarless men’s coat, made from blue and white flecked wool twill is a rare item. Its still very bell-like coat skirts, still fashionable in the 1750’s, correspond to the basic cut of the justeaucorps, but differ from the elegant cuts of the nobility in the rustic material and the very simple features. The full-length front button placket is equipped with 18 buttons and the corresponding buttonholes, of which only three at the neckline and two at waist level close. All the others are blinds. The open edge-to-edge median seam of the back coat skirts are framed on either side by a purely decorative row of buttonholes. The slit sleeves, narrowing toward the front, have two buttonholes, the lower one of which may be closed with a ball button. The pocket flaps of each are equipped with three vertical buttonholes. The set of 28 fabric-covered ball buttons with matching silk thread black ornamental embroidery imitates the laboriously embroidered coats of the nobility.
