Jingsin are shoes with hobnails on the outsole. They were also called jinsin (jin means muddy in Korean), since it was worn on muddy roads, or yuhye (yu means oil) as it was made of hides soaked in perilla oil. Jingsin were made of mostly cowhide, and occasionally horsehide and dog hide as well. Male jingsin are similar to taesahye, or Korea’s traditional shoes for men, and female jingsin resemble danghye, or Korea’s traditional shoes for women. The sole was reinforced with several layers of leather and made waterproof with perilla oil. The outsole was studded with hobnails.
