Projeto Portinari

Projeto Portinari
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Composition in earthy, blue, ochre, black, purple, green and gray tones. Smooth texture and brushstrokes in small commas. Composition representing half-length mulatto, occupying almost the entire support area against field landscape background. The figure is facing forward, turned slightly to the right, has dark skin, oval face, dark curly hair divided to the left, narrow forehead, thick eyebrows, large eyes set wide apart, looking forward, nubin nose, exaggerated thick lips and rounded chin. His chest is bare and we see developed muscles; the right arm is crossed over the left one; right hand is not visible and on the left we see four thick fingers that reveal a strong worker's hand. In the background, landscape with hill and on the left, flat terrain in perspective to the horizon line with a banana plantation surrounded by brick wall and small construction to the right; in the center, rammed earth with small stones scattered, some fence posts and wire, behind which we see a plantation on the left. Clear sky with some plump clouds.
