German Sports Association "Kaiserwald" ("Ķeizarmežs") was established in Mežaparks in 1903, in the territory of former Annas mansion, which the Association rented from Riga's Building Society. Before World War I "Kaiserwald" was the largest sports organization in Latvia (approx. 1,400 members), offering its members the widest range of sporting activities - the original 9 sports sections quickly grew to 14, covering a wide range of physical activities such as water, ice, as well as to land and even slow leisure and entertainment facilities in park and green section.
