The uniform worn by Liam Neeson in his role as Commander in Chief of the
Irish Free State Army is the costume that comes closest to a historical
document in the archive. Collins is revered by many in Ireland and it is
thought that his untimely death in 1922 changed the course of Irish history,
certainly for the better part of the 20th century. Powell and her team were
very keen that this costume was accurate. Military uniforms require a huge
amount of research and attention to detail. This uniform, made by Angels
costume house in London, was subsequently altered and finished by master
costume tailor Denis Darcy, now retired. Jordan’s film was nominated for 2
Oscars, for music and cinematography.
