Casa Buonarroti

Casa Buonarroti
Firenze, Italy

This is the central canvas of the ceiling of the Galleria in which is celebrated the apotheosis of Michelangelo. The artist, richly dressed up, is placed in profile, lighted by a beam of light from above. Around him, four female figures hold with their hand the attributes that identify them: it is the Painting, the Sculpture, the Architecture and the Poetry. The four allegories with their arms raised, pose on the head of the artist four laurel wreaths. In the foreground, on an open book, we can read the Latin inscription that identifies the scene.
