Michelangelo is received in Rome by Francesco I de' Medici

This is the last canvas intended for the walls of the Gallery and shows the meeting, took place in Rome, between the old Michelangelo and the Grand Duke Francesco I, yet 20 years old. The Grand Duke is figured standying, after having given up his chair to the master himself; both discuss placidly, on the background a loggia it opens on ancient buildings. The scene here represented alludes to the significant respect that Michelangelo enjoyed in the gran ducal court; like that, he had obtained from the papal one.
