Michelangelo Medallion - Detail of the frieze in the Hall of Peace

For the frieze in the Hall of Peace, the sculptor imagined twenty-six elegant winged Fame, in graceful dancing poses, among which twenty-two circular medallions are arranged containing profiles of painters, sculptors, architects and musicians. With one exception they are all Italian and French artists. The 2013 restoration made it possible to rediscover the writings that identify the artists and to bring to light a delicate coloring of the frieze. Originally the stuccos were white marble, the color scheme found therefore probably dates back to the end of the 19th century, when the room was part of Queen Margherita's apartment, or to the beginning of the 20th century, when the rooms in this part of the palace were rearranged to be used for the stays of the king's guests.
