Michelangelo on his deathbed

Francesco Furini1628

Casa Buonarroti

Casa Buonarroti
Firenze, Italy

In pendant with the episode of Michelangelo’s mother pregnant fall off a horse placed on the left door-arch, on the right, we find the scene of Michelangelo on his deathbed. The artist, in the moment of dying, lies down on a canopy bed, in a room just lit up by the votive candles; he turned its look on three female figures that are watching over him, in which, thanks to the attributes, we can recognize the three theological virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity.
