This is a portrait of two mine workers from the Kolar Gold Mines. Both the workers look directly at the camera (in turn, the viewer) and are wearing helmets with torch lights; the photograph is shot inside the mine. The worker's face on the right is lit up which is in high contrast to the otherwise dark background. The worker’s face on the left shows the strain of physical labour that comes from working in the mine. The Kolar Gold Mine closed in 2001, having a significant impact on local economy, climate and infrastructure.
