Miniature books, especially religious volumes, are not only portable and convenient, but carry added meaning for their owners. Since these can travel close to the body, they can be worn for good luck or protection. In the 19th century, as a consequence of new developments in printing (and transportation) technologies, miniature books proliferated. This Greek New Testament was rebound in the 19th century, but was printed earlier.
