Miniature of Frances Leech Donnell in pastels, chiefly in brown, on ivory. Gold rimmed frame. Written on the back: "My Mother. FRANCES LEECH DONNELL, md. James Biddle Shepard, mothers of J.R.D.S."

Frances Leech Donnell a native of New Bern, NC married James Biddle Shepard. She died shortly after the birth of their first child, John Robert Donnell, on May 8, 1845.
