More than 3000 years ago, there were miners digging Sierra Morena looking for metals trapped underground. This block of hard and dark stone (diorite) was buffed to form the hammer, having a slit for fixing the handle.
The hammer would serve to crush rocks and break through to the mining reef for mineral extraction, and was located on the argaric site of Castro de la Magdalena, near Castulo.
