Byeokchae is an agricultural implement used for removing grass or hilling soil, but it was also used in mines to rake or dig up ore. Byeokchae consists of a blade and a shaft, and is generally categorized into two types. One has a triangular blade with a sharp edge, connected roughly at a right angle by a short socket. The other resembles a cross between homi and gwaengi, and has an L-shaped blade inserted into a handle.
