Three men measure the huge trunk of
a tree with their outstretched arms.
Hokusai has placed the tree almost
centrally in the design, whereas a western
artist at the time would probably have put
it further to one side.
Later on western artists, such as Van
and Gauguin, were strongly
influenced by the compositions of
Japanese prints.
