This painting is one of the few surviving pieces of Brammer's work that has been catalogued. Brammer intends to express a natural setting and hieghtens the sense of depth and perspective by floating the focal point of the picture plane mid-way between the horizontal and vertical axes of he painting. The small group of men in the boat are a small tribute to genre painting and may reflect Brammer's partner, Augustus Von Smith's influence. In the distance there is a steamboat and a sailboat, that represent the old and the new.
