Missy Higgins

Melissa 'Missy' Higgins (b. 1982), singer-songwriter, began singing in her early teens, falsifying her age to get into clubs to play with her brother's jazz combo. While she was a student at Geelong Grammar in 2001, the demo track 'All For Believing' won her Triple J’s Victoria Unearthed unsigned artists' competition. She was soon offered a contract with local label Eleven, which now also handles Little Birdy and Sarah Blasko. Higgins screamed to the top of the Australian charts last year with a number of hit singles including 'Scar'. The most played song on Australian radio for 2004, 'Scar' was voted the APRA song of the year and second-best song on Triple J’s 'Hottest 100' poll. Her first full full-length CD ‘The Sound of White’ was released in 2004. At the 2005 ARIA awards she won five awards, and followed this up with the release of ‘On A Clear Night’ in 2007. After taking a break in order to pursue other interests, and released ‘The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle’ in 2011, followed by ‘OZ’ in 2014. She continues to perform and tour, with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in 2016 and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the end of 2016.
