Ila alasepo' is a thick soup made from Okra, stockfish, cow skin 'ponmo', protein of choice (beef, chicken, turkey, etc), roasted mackrel (if desired), seasonings, palm oil, and ground crayfish. To prepare, the protein and ponmo are boiled and set aside. The Okra fingers are grated. In a sauce pan or pot, heat palm oil and add chopped onions, ground pepper, and seasonings. Leave to simmer for 3 minutes, then add stockfish, ponmo and other protein. Add the grated Okra and leave to cook for about 3 minutes. Add crayfish and stir. Okro soup can be served with eba, amala, or wheat.
