Electric vehicles were particularly advantageous on short routes and with small transport loads. The post office used them mainly in local and suburban areas. From 1907, 2 of these electric letter collection cars were used in Hamburg, making collection of the the letter bags of the distant city post offices quicker. This car had a load capacity of 440 pounds (200 kg), a power output of 5 horsepower, and a maximum speed of 12 miles per hour.
