This piece of bas-relief on Chicken-blood Stone by Shao Chengxin, a male arts and crafts master of Zhejiang province born in Lin’an in 1963, is on the traditional Chinese theme of “coin-shedding” trees. Using the natural form of the stone for mountains, the artisan added figures including an amiable old man and lovely toddlers to the image, creating a scene of a happy and abundant life. The toddler on the tree with an ingot in hand, in particular, adds special interest to the piece, arousing the viewers’ memories and longing for happy lives. An inscription of “Coin-shedding Tree, by Chengxin” can be seen on the front.
