This paper folding fan has guards and ribs coated with jinxing lacquer. One side of its panel features the modern calligrapher Wu Xinru’s free flowing running-script calligraphy that combines power and elegance, while the other embellished with a painting of three goats, an auspicious token for fortune. In the Chinese culture, this beloved domesticated animal that has been in company of the Chinese people since ancient times has been endowed with propitious meanings due to its gentle character as well as the “goat” and “sun” homonym in the Chinese language.
