Tailor-made for the Umbrella Museum of China by the artist Xu Shidan, this umbrella features flame motifs in a strong palette, characteristic of the artist’s signature paint-splattering art, on a plain foundation of canopy. Inscribed on the cap is the signature of the artist “by Xu Shidan at the bank of the West Lake in hometown Hangzhou, 2002” as well as his square seal reading “Shi Dan”.
Born in April, 1934 in Hengheqiao, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Xu Shidan is a modern Chinese painter living in the United States, who is a member of many organizations including Chinese Artists Association, Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture and California Arts Council, invited member of the Art Museum of Rutgers University, and consultant for Chinese Design Center of Classical Gardens.
