This piece of stone carving by Huang Yinsong, a male arts and crafts master of Zhejiang province born in 1958 in Wenzhou, adopted the high-quality Rosewood Steatite Stone, a variety of Qingtian Stones from Mount Ji of Qingtian with a rosewood color, a fine and smooth texture and a pleasant luster. But such kind of tones requires thoughtfulness in design as they are usually larded with steatite stone strips in bluish white or beige. This piece is an apposite example of such ingenious design, with the majority rosewood stone sculpted into a decorous vase while the bluish white steatite strips were skillfully crafted into patterns of peony, lotus and plum blossoms as well as chrysanthemums, as symbols of the four seasons.
