Hangzhou, China

This item by Wu Songjiang, a male arts and crafts master of Zhejiang province born in 1973 in Qingtian, presents a picturesque scene of Chinese mandarin ducks swimming leisurely in the West Lake in early spring. Based on the material of high-quality Sancai (Tri-color) Stone from Lingtou village of Fujian province, the artisan applied a series of techniques including freestanding carving, relief carving, etc., to a composition similar to that of the freehand brushwork of traditional Chinese painting, resulting in a visual effect of well-arranged elements and a distinctive color palette.
