Crafted by the umbrella-making master Tu Jialiang, this item has 28 ribs glued with previously removed green outer bark, a bamboo root handle and a round canopy in orange, decorated with paintings featuring boats and reflections in Wuxia George of the Yangtze River. Having innovatively included painting in the embellishment for West Lake silk umbrellas, Mr. Tu, who served as technician for the West Lake Umbrella Factory, helped to accentuate the artistic features of this traditional handicraft by developing new themes of ornaments such as court ladies, landscape, birds and flowers, etc.
