The Longitude Prize is a global competition hosted by the UK government and a collection of companies looking for new tools to diagnose bacterial infections. The £8 million prize will be awarded to anyone who can create a test that meets the competition criteria, and there are more than 250 groups already in the running from more than 70 countries.
Bacteria can move through water systems, people and shipping lines to cross borders, so a global response to superbugs is necessary to prevent dangerous infections from spreading around the world.
