Mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical areas, monitor lizards are large lizard-like reptiles and include today’s largest living saurians. Normally, they walk with a quadruped gait, but when threatening predators or rivals, they can take on a bipedal posture up on their hind legs. In addition, they may also keep a bipedal gait while running fast.
