The north side of the Monroe Presidential Guest House is constructed of reclaimed timbers, making it difficult to date. This two room "shed addition" was likely added sometime after the construction of the original two-room guest house using wood another structure. To the north of the Monroe Presidential Guest House is the "John's Garden," an ornamental garden named after the last private owner of Highland, Jay Winston Johns.
