A large acrylic painted canvas, depicting abstract and colourful monster faces around the edge of the artwork with dotted pattern in linier swavethes filling the center of the the work.

Ruth has been a student on Suffolk Artlink’s art courses for adults with learning disabilities for 6 years.

Ruth says: ‘Monsterland is the biggest and scariest picture and also it’s funny and bright. It’s all about a magical land of monsters.

‘I feel proud of my picture because I worked so hard for lots of weeks. I had to paint it lying on the floor and I loved it so much.

‘Suffolk Artlink help me a lot by showing me new things to do like painting, acting, poems and music, going on trips and making lots of friends.

‘It makes me feel good and perfect and incredible!

Suffolk Artlink's arts training course for people with learning disabilities offer students the chance to enjoy an in-depth exploration of an art form whilst developing creative and life skills.

Students work alongside professional artists during weekly art days. Through artist-led sessions, trips to cultural venues and public celebrations of their work, students learn new skills and gain confidence, friendships and wellbeing.

Courses are run in Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft and Ipswich and focus on a wide variety of art forms including illustration, dance, film-making, photography, music and visual arts.

Students are also offered advice and guidance on how to progress on to volunteering, work experience and further training.
