These photos show plans and architectural models of the "Montanunionstadt". From 1952, questions were raised as to the future seat of the European Community for Coal and Steel (the "Montanunion"). Until 1955, concrete plans for making Saarbrücken the seat of the Community were being developed. An international architecture competition was, among other things, performed to this end. However, all of these plans become void when the Saarland's inhabitants decided against the European Saar Statute on 23 October 1955.
