In the case of the present work and others from this period, including his views of Toledo and Ávila, the intention of the treatment overall is to emphasise the slightly ghostly architectural structures in the upper part of the compositions. The deliberate imprecision of the brushstrokes and the choice of colours seem to blur the distinction between the different elements and to fuse them both formally and chromatically.
