Nick Walker is a British graffiti artist best known for his stencil works that frequently joins the political with tongue-in-cheek humour. Born in Bristol, he was part of the groundbreaking Bristol graffiti scene in the early 1980s and played a significant role in shaping the look of British street art. The artist's most recognisable work features Walker's "Vandal" character, a sharply dressed, quintessential English man in a bowler hat committing mischief on the streets.
Painted for the 2006 Nuart Festival, "Moona Lisa" is the artist's signature twist on Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. This time the subject is depicted with her back turned towards the viewer, pulling up her skirt and exposing her buttocks. The work was partially painted over by an anonymous member of the public in 2013 and subsequently buffed.
