This design was produced for post-war R.T.-type buses and became known as the standard R.T. moquette. The pattern consists of horizontal stripes of varying thickness in black, green and brown, mixed with red vertical stripes. As the R.T. fleet became the largest standardised bus type in the world, the moquette was produced in large quantities. It was also specified for other buses such as the R.F. and G.S.- type. The design was used for retrimming seats in the R.T.-type buses up until the early 1980s. Later it was also used on S.T.L.- type and Q-type buses.

  • Physical Description: Sample of cut and loop pile wool moquette. The pattern consists of horizontal stripes of varying thickness in black, green and brown in cut pile interspersed with red vertical stripes in loop pile. This piece is 22" and although adequate for cushions it would have been of insufficient width for seat backs and a wider piece would probably have been ordered originally. It is known that this design of moquette was used for retrimming of RT-type buses and was used from 1947 until the early 1980s. This sample has some irregularities in the cut/loop boundaries and may be a sample from a rejected batch held by the Chiswick Laboratory.
