Kazimierz Dolny, Poland

This work comes from a series of woodcuts by Władysław Skoczylas, depicting Kazimierz Dolny. The artist captured the town by using his typical, layered build-up of forms. At the very top, he placed the parish church. The chimneys of houses or horizontal logs were depicted in a rhythmical manner. The foreground is occupied by goats, frequently encountered in the town’s landscape in those days.
