Motte and Keep

The Keep was the ultimate refuge of the castle. Its other uses are uncertain, but the fragmentary remains of its buildings suggest that it may have been used at times for accomodation. It stands in the north-east corner of the castle, and is approached by climbing up the motte via 71 stairs.
