Pottery has been made in the Port Moresby area for about 2000 years. The Motu women make several kinds of pots for cooking and serving food, storing sago flour and carrying fresh water. The women formerly produced thousands of pots each year for the trading voyages to the Gulf of Papua. The young girl is learning to make a pot under the guidance of her mother.
