Mould

This stone mould was discovered at Nablus. There were originally two identical halves, but the other half has unfortunately not been found. Moulds of this kind were indispensable aids for smiths. They were fireproof and had notches that fitted together snugly. The metal (gold, silver or bronze) was poured into the mould through one or more openings. Moulds could be re-used an indefinite number of times.
