Mountain in mind, water in mind

Kan's works may well be described as the spirit of Chinese culture manifested through modern design concepts, as seen here in this abstract 'landscape' painting. The void (xubai) takes up a major proportion of the composition as the traditional Chinese landscape painted with bold, sweeping brushworks is shown through the carefully arranged mist and clouds. The whole image would transform into a calligraphy if one steps back to view it from a distance.The brushstrokes are lyrically conveying a sense of rhythm. Following the path of each stroke, one can almost feel the artist's performance of "Tai-chi" with the brush.
