Carved and painted wooden sailfish to which has been attached the fins and spear from a real swordfish. Two large metal hook eyes - one on either side - have been mounted to allow for hanging. The real fins and spear are from a sailfish caught by the FDR on October 11, 1935, in the Pacific Ocean in the vicinity of Cocos Island, Costa Rica. Prepared by taxidermists Charles R. Aschemeier and Watson M. Perrygo in a laboratory in the United States National Museum (now the National Museum of Natural History). FDR Library Museum Collection, MO 1942.38.1.
