Spring driven with lever escapement. Compensation balance and Breguet balance spring, 15 jewels. Manual winding. Caliber Movado 780.
Case shape, dimensions, type of numbers speak in favour of dating this watch around 1915. Ladies gold watch serial number 785913, illustrated in the book The Movado History[1], is dated 1915. The number of this example is very close to it – 785447, thus it was probably produced in the same year, or possibly a year before. Similar ladies Movado chronometers are reproduced in the book Armbanduhren[2].
Wrist watches – chronometers must meet certain precision standards. In the time when this watch was made in Switzerland chronometer certificats were issued by observatories in Neuchâtel and Geneva, and since 1973 by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres). The fact that this watch movement has compensation balance and Breguet balance spring, and was adjusted in 4 positions (four adjusts)[3] testifies that it is a movement of high quality and precision.
