  • Critic's Note: The artist sees fantasy through contemporary environment brimming with digital information and commodities, and overlaps it with inspiration of landscapes from the past. Images of a blue and green sky or a sunset flanked by clouds which might be found on the web, a sun appropriated from an orange on the table, an imagined planet and a blue globe which might be real appear in the same space. The artist also finds the models and collaged images of trees, animals, and humans in daily life with exquisite empathy and made them coexist on the same scene. His horizontal landscapes of inspiration connected to the past are reproduced as a fantastic experience of the real world, emancipated from a trans-empirical, unrealistic world existing only in imagination and memory. Lim is an artist who shows the aesthetic value of complex art; combining carving, polishing, manipulating, and installing the objects, then captures and retouches them. He is also a translator of infinite space and time, either assimilating or evading conventions in Asian painting, sculpture, installation and photography. As his photography has poetic value, it differs from simulacra in virtual space. Since Lim actively revives historical materials at will he can communicate with our times with more flexibility than his predecessors. Thus Lim is identified as a contemporaneous artist who can manipulate the tools of representation that can demolish the walls between imagination and reality, with a contemplative attitude in daily life like that of a truth seeker.
