Molded paper is the manufactured packing material used to support products in transit, this material made of recycled paper pulp is molded into three-dimensional space. Corley takes this waste product and reinvents them into totems of our culture with references to other artist and scientific development. Here in "Mr. Kelly", Corley references American painter Ellsworth Kelly the reductionist abstract painter who shifted shapes and colors creating illusionary dimension. Corley sees the dimensions in the molded paper as flat and painters usually create illusionary space with tricks of perspective. An apt title for these works would be "Primitive Futurism".
