On January 1, 1979, people in Germany began to use fax. From May of this year, the Post Office began selling the manual drum machine "MT 21." The paper was laid flat, fed into the machine, and automatically stretched over a drum. A sliding carriage with optical scan groups then read the original. The burning needle attached to this sliding carriage recorded incoming messages onto electro-sensitive paper. The user-friendly model was available in green or brown.
