In 1982, Akino visited the village of Madhubani in the state of Bihar close to Nepal. It is said that she was greatly delighted by the murals drawn on every wall. For several years after her return to Japan, Akino featured the wall paintings of the village many times in her works. The trees rising up like fountains are known as the tree of life pattern, and it represents the prayers and hopes of people for fertile land, prosperity, happiness, and more. Her sympathy can clearly be seen towards those who live in conjunction with that generous and powerful design.
