Mukha Veena, also called Kurumkuzhal, is a wind instrument. It has a hollow pipe or tube, blown in accompaniment to the chenda, during ritual processions and chenda melams in Kerala. The tube has seven holes for playing melody by closing and opening it. Indian Mukha Veena does not have keys and hence can produce finer shrutis (pitch) and gamakas(ornamentation) essential for Karnatik music. It is similar to the Nagaswaram, but shorter in size and produces high pitched sound.
