This statue of Mumba Devi was commissioned by the Museum in 2009. Mumba Devi is venerated as the patron goddess of Mumbai and of the Kolis, the city's original inhabitants. In fact, the name of the city is derived from Mumba Aai or mother goddess, as she is known.
